FAQ
✨ Where is Mao Projects located?
Mao Projects is located on the traditional territories of the peoples of the Treaty 7 region and Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, in Calgary, AB, Canada.
✨ How can I find out about the next drop?
The web shop is updated every month or two, usually on the first Saturday of the month. A preview of the new collection will typically go live the day before it is available for purchase. Joining the mailing list is an excellent way to stay up to date with future drops, and you can also follow us on social media.
✨ How are Mao Projects ceramics made?
Mao Projects ceramics are made with stoneware clay or porcelain, fired in an electric kiln (two or three times), and glazed to be food-safe unless stated otherwise. Each piece is given a great deal of attention, focusing on quality and the development of Mao Projects' own unique aesthetic. Mao Projects uses processes of hand-building and slip-casting to create functional and sculptural objects for daily enjoyment.
✨ How should I take care of Mao Projects ceramics?
Mao Projects ceramic tableware pieces are made with stoneware clay that is glaze fired to cone 6, making it food-safe, microwave-safe, and dishwasher-safe. We do recommend hand washing, as it is more gentle on the pieces. Additionally, we suggest avoiding quick temperature changes between hot and cold as this can cause damage to the pieces due to thermal shock, resulting in cracking or breakage.
*Spoons and Lustred objects (Gold and Mother of Pearl) are particularly delicate and should be handled with extra care.
Treated with care, your pieces will last a lifetime :)
✨ How should I take care of Mao Projects Lustre pieces? (Gold and Mother of Pearl)
Over glazes are non-toxic after firing. The over glazes we use are dinnerware safe, however, our recommendation is that wares decorated with over glazes should not be used in microwave ovens or the dishwasher to maintain the quality of the finish over time. Treat your over glazed pieces with extra care, we suggest gentle hand washing only.
